GMC Yukon Denali XL Milk-Spill Restoration

Vehicle and Reported Concern
The vehicle was brought to Cotton Soft Detailing after a substantial milk spill contaminated the interior.
Although some of the contamination was visible, the full travel path and severity could not be determined without removing interior components. Milk can travel beneath carpet, enter absorbent underlay and remain trapped against the vehicle frame, wiring pathways and other concealed areas.
Because residual organic material can contribute to persistent odour and future material deterioration, the service was approached as an interior restoration rather than a surface-level detail.
Investigative Disassembly
Mechanical disassembly and reassembly were performed by a third-party AMVIC-licensed automotive technician.
The interior was extensively disassembled to expose the affected materials and determine how far the milk had travelled. Access included removal of the seats, carpet sections, affected underlay and related interior components.
This process revealed contamination extending beneath the visible carpet and into concealed areas that could not have been properly assessed or treated while the interior remained assembled.
Findings Beneath the Interior
After the carpet and seats were removed, the inspection identified:
Milk contamination beneath the visible carpet
Saturated and affected sections of factory underlay
Contamination reaching exposed vehicle-frame areas
Organic residue around accessible wiring harnesses and concealed pathways
Carpet sections that could not be reliably restored through cleaning alone
Areas requiring material replacement to reduce the likelihood of residual odour or future deterioration
The findings demonstrated why surface extraction alone would not have addressed the full scope of the spill.
Replacement Decisions
Material replacement was determined according to condition rather than appearance alone.
Affected sections of underlay were removed and replaced. Portions of the front carpet that could not be reliably restored were replaced with original equipment manufacturer components.
Using OEM replacement carpet preserved the original fit, contours and compatibility of the vehicle interior while removing material that presented an unacceptable restoration limitation.
Salvageable components were retained and treated wherever reasonable. Replacement was recommended only where the condition of the material prevented a reliable restoration outcome.
Cleaning and Sanitation
Cotton Soft Detailing performed the interior cleaning, contamination remediation and sanitation portion of the service.
The approved scope included:

Care was taken around electrical connections and vehicle components. Sanitation was limited to areas that could be accessed and treated without creating an unreasonable risk of damage.
Reassembly
Reassembly proceeded after the exposed frame, accessible wiring areas, replacement materials and salvageable components had been cleaned, treated and sufficiently dried.
The third-party AMVIC-licensed automotive technician reinstalled the interior components and replacement carpet sections. This separation of responsibilities allowed Cotton Soft Detailing to focus on restoration and sanitation while the technician remained responsible for mechanical removal and reinstallation.

The completed service addressed the milk contamination through a combination of extensive access, targeted sanitation and selective material replacement.

Why This Case Required Interior Restoration
